If you're the type of person who thinks 75° F is cold—and summer is meant for the sun—then this is the Asheville paddling tour you'll definitely want to take. Summer temperatures can be 85° F at the hottest part of the day, and the gentle French Broad River makes for the perfect afternoon dip. At the end of the tour, paddlers conveniently find themselves in the heart of the River Arts District, where breweries, restaurants, and artisan studios are a 5-minute stroll away.
*Note: The river can often be crowded during this time—particularly on holidays and weekends. If you'd prefer not to share the river with tubers, we highly recommend our 9:30am mid-morning tour or our late day sunset tour.
1:30pm: Meet in the River Arts District just north of the Cotton Mill studio. Address: 159 Riverside Drive, Asheville NC 28801
1:45pm: Depart River Arts District for Hominy Creek
2:00pm: Arrive at Hominy Creek
2:00-2:30pm: Standup Paddle Lesson and Instruction
2:30:-4pm: 4-mile paddle back to River Arts District
WHAT TO BRING
Our boards are so stable there's a very good chance you may never touch the water. Considering the afternoon heat, however, taking a cool, refreshing dip is all a part of the fun! It's best to wear board shorts or a bathing suit if you'd like to cool off in the river, and sunglasses are definitely a nice addition—although you might want a Croakie or string. If you plan to hang in the River Arts District at the end of the Asheville paddling tour, we'd suggest bringing a change of clothes and towel that you can grab from your car at the end.
If you'd like, you can also bring a waterproof camera for capturing all of the fun, just know that Wai Mauna Asheville SUP Tours isn't liable for items that are lost, damaged, or stolen. Finally, optional items include sunscreen and bug spray (eco-safe is best), and if it's looking like a day with an afternoon sprinkle, there's no harm in bringing a rain jacket if you think you'll absolutely need it.
